Who is Piqpoq?

J’ai fondé la maison d’édition Piqpoq en 2009, à l’occasion de la publication de mon premier livre en tant qu’auteure, Mobilier design pour enfants. Après douze ans passés comme éditrice au sein d’une maison d’édition à Paris, j’ai ainsi décidé de devenir indépendante, à la fois en créant ma propre structure et en travaillant en freelance pour d’autres éditeurs.

Puis, en tant que collectionneuse, une enquête sur la paternité d’une chaise m’a menée d’un designer à l’autre – de Marcel Gascoin à Jacques Hitier. Une chaise comme le fil rouge d’un cheminement éditorial qui prend son temps, mais surtout se nourrit de rencontres, de hasard et d’amitiés. L’illustrateur et designer de jouets Fredun Shapur fait partie de ces belles aventures, éditoriales et humaines.

L’histoire de Piqpoq est ainsi faite de rencontres avec les auteurs bien sûr, mais aussi avec ceux qui les lisent et se passionnent pour le design et le graphisme. Les publications sont autant que possible accompagnées d’expositions pour nous donner l’occasion de partager ces moments de découverte.

I founded the Piqpoq publishing house in 2009, to coincide with the publication of my first book as an author, Mobilier design pour enfants (Designer furniture for children). After twelve years as an editor with a publishing house in Paris, I decided to become independent, both by creating my own structure and by working freelance for other publishers.

Then, as a collector, an investigation into the authorship of a chair led me from one designer to another— from Marcel Gascoin to Jacques Hitier. A chair as the red thread of an editorial journey that takes its time, but above all is nourished by encounters, chance and friendships. Illustrator and toy designer Fredun Shapur is one of these beautiful adventures, both editorial and human.

The history of Piqpoq is made up of encounters with authors, of course, but also with those who read them and are passionate about design and graphics. Whenever possible, our publications are accompanied by exhibitions, giving us the opportunity to share these moments of discovery.
